Hooray! You are planning your wedding! While this is one of the most exciting times in your life, it can be overwhelming if this is your first time diving into the wedding world. I know there are a lot of options out there and a lot of decisions have to be made leading up to your big day. So I like to try to help my brides & grooms out by giving you a little idea of what to expect with me as your wedding photographer.
My first priority is you. The couple. I truly believe that the months prior to a wedding can be just as impactful as the wedding day itself. So I want those months of planning to be fun and enjoyable! I meet with each couple for a coffee or cocktail meeting so that I can learn more about you. This is the time when you can gush about the proposal and all of your ideas for your big day. I love hearing about details of how you met, how many furbabies you have, where your favorite place is to hangout on a Saturday, etc…. Not to mention wedding details like colors, cake, venue, dresses, signature drinks, who’s in your bridal party, etc. It is so important to me to connect with each of my couples, so I take the time to get to know to so we can decide if we will be a good fit. Because, honestly, I want all parties involved in your wedding to enjoy the process from start to finish.
The engagement session. The truth is, before the big day, most couples are never photographed together…other than selfies. I would highly recommend including an engagement session and here’s why… You arrive in your best attire, to the most beautiful location, with the perfect save the date sign and feel like a million bucks, but once that big camera comes up it’s a whole new ballgame. It can be a little intimidating! Even as a photographer who’s been in front of the camera since I was a child (thanks Dad) I still get butterflies before a photoshoot.
This is where the engagement session is a beautiful thing. These sessions give us time to connect even more; I can help you learn to feel comfortable and confident in front of the camera, and you can see how I work behind the camera. Engagement sessions are more relaxed and a time to capture you as a couple. We have more time to be silly, slow down to have those tender moments, and fully capture you as a couple. We can set up the session at your favorite park, your first date spot, a brewery…wherever fits your personality best. After a fun session like this, being in front of the camera on your wedding day will be easy-peasy!
It’s here…the big day! My main focus on your wedding day is to capture your story. From the early part of the day when you’re getting into your dress and lacing it all the way up the back…or have a hundred buttons to loop through…or just zip it up clean and easy. When he is putting on his jacket and fiddling with his cuff links. That moment when Mom puts on your necklace and you two share a moment together. His Dad gives him a pat on the back and exchange a glance that needs no words. When your best friend slips on your shoes for you like Cinderella. His buddies all gather around and cheers a beer for good luck. The first time you look in the mirror, ready to walk down the aisle. As he takes a deep breath and waits for you outside. This is the story that I am there to capture.
Every wedding has a unique story, just like every couple is unique. Whether it’s the little giggle or loud outburst laugh during the ceremony…that’s your story. It’s the way you throw your hands up in celebration or give each other one more adoring look after you’ve shared your first kiss as a married couple. Those moments are yours. And they will be frozen in time so you can look back on them years from now and still feel that moment deep in your heart. So you can show your grandkids how sassy you were on the dance floor and how tenderly you held each other when you finally had a moment alone. You can remember the joke your best man told to make the entire reception hall burst out in laughter, and the memory your dad shared that brought tears to your eyes. This day is for you. To celebrate your love. Your story.
